Juliette Hogan a Finalist at Gen Art Styles in New York

Juliette HoganKiwi designers just can’t help making an impression wherever they go.  First Jaeha Alex Kim at the Mango Awards last month and now Juliette Hogan has been selected as a finalist at the Gen Art Styles competition to be held in New York this July.

It’s a great feeling to know that despite New Zealands meager population of 4.2 million, we churn out some very talented individuals.  Juliette should be proud of her achievement as she managed to secure one of only five spots available in the Womens Ready to Wear section.  And this was from a pool of over 850 entries submitted from contestants around the world.

Entries were critiqued and chosen by a committee made up of editors of Vogue, GQ, Teen Vogue, Marie Claire and buyers from Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, to name a few.

It is in the selection process that I believe lies the most promise for Juliette.  Gaining recognition from industry leaders of that calibre, validates that her style has an internationally marketable appeal.  So regardless of the outcome at the awards, she has already proven that her designs transcend the boundaries of a New Zealand market and she may find herself picking up accounts in the U.S.

Yet another kiwi designer has wowed an international audience and it is these kind of industry successes that help to put our designers on the radar.  So, congratulations to Juliette and also thank you for paving the way for other New Zealand designers that may follow.
