Miromoda Judges Announced, Verdict to Come on Who Will Show at ANZFW

Miromoda, New Zealand’s first ever fashion design competition targeted toward Maori, is now only days away from it’s offical debut.  27 designers from all over the country will compete at an invitation only event held on Saturday the 27th of June at Massey University in Wellington.

Influential leaders in fashion, education and local government have been chosen to judge the entries and include; Pieter Stewart (Fouding Director of the ANZFW), Natalie Bridges (Editor Simply You and Simply Living Magazine), Hon Georgina Te Heuheu, Liz Mellish (Wellington Tenths Trust), Ray Ahipere Mercer (Wellington City Councillor) and Dr Khyla Russell (Otago Polytechnic).

In an interesting move, the organisers have chosen to adopt a judging process similar to the popular reality television series Project Runway.  In a bid to secure a winning place, finalists in all sections will go up against the panel of judges and be given an opportunity to ‘sell’ their collection.

Entrants are both nervous and excited at the prospect of making a presentation to the judging panel.  A finalist from the Waikato expressed an increased feeling of anxiety when informed of who had been chosen to critique designers garments.  Another from the Bay of Plenty exclaimed that “…it all add’s to the excitement.  If designers prepare themselves adequately, the presentation will be a breeze.”

Those successful in impressing the judges will win cash prizes, an invitation to show at the 2009 ANZFW for free and the overall winner will be whisked away to Toronto, Canada to attend the Planet IndigenoUS festival later in the year.
