Last Days to Vote for the Newmarket Young Designer Awards
On one of the many Designer Direction fashion expeditions taken last week, we got to check out the thirty-five garments that made it into the finals of the Newmarket Young Designer Award. Not wanting to give away too much until the awards ceremony, the Designer Direction team picked out a few of their faves and encourage you to vote for your fave too!
There is less than one week left to vote for your favourite garment as part of the 2009 Newmarket Young Fashion Designer Award. Thirty-five garments created by aspiring designer teen’s from around New Zealand are on display upstairs at Rialto in Newmarket, Auckland until 5pm, Sunday the 4th of October.
The People’s Choice category enables the public to have their say and be into win a $500 Rialto Centre shopping voucher. So if you are in Auckland get down to the Rialto in Newmarket to cast your vote!
The winner of the People’s Choice and the overall winner of the Newmarket Young Fashion Designer Award will be announced at the award’s evening and fashion show on the 20th of October at the Raye Freedman Arts Centre. Prizes will also be given for the runner ups and highly commended.
Judging took place at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design on 17 September with judges Elisabeth Findlay (Zambesi), Paul Huege de Serville (Serville hair salons), Belinda Watt (Whitecliffe), Meegan Pollock (Centrepoint Fabrics), and Maria Beer (Qantas).
The overall winner of the Newmarket Young Fashion Designer Award will fly Qantas for two to New York. He or she will get to work backstage at the Karen Walker Show at New York Fashion Week and will receive $1,000NZ spending money. The winning designer will also receive a 12-month scholarship at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design, and a two-week design assistant internship working alongside Auckland designer Vicki Taylor in the Taylor Workroom.

Is there any fashion designing drawings for ages 15, cause when i grow up im willing to become a fashion designer… Im really good and I have these perfect sexy dresses…. I need fashion drawing competitons for 09/10 please!
Hiya, Are you based in New Zealand? If so there is the Bernina Young Designer award for High School students. The competition has alread finished for this year but they have one every year. Let me know if you need any further information. Ed.
