Dunedin Rolls Out the Red Carpet for iD Opening Night

Dunedin fashion week started a sizzle and a pop leaving Dunedin’s VIP fashionistas seeing red! Emergency services were not needed because it was the bubbly popping and this season’s hot reds that were sizzling.

The Dunedin iD committee had decked out the new Wall Street Mall in red carpet, red balloons and red couture. With all this seasons trend watchers screaming red alert. Dunedin followed suit and have made red the opening theme for this year’s iD fashion week.

The entrance of the grandiose Wall Street Mall housed eight statuesque models. All adorning different shades, shapes and silhouettes of red. The garments on show ranged from candy red casual dress to crinoline couture. I’m not quite sure if I missed the memo, but red seemed to be the dominant colour among the crowd of fashion goers, which is no easy feat in the usually blacked out Dunedin.

Tanya Carlson & Margo Barton

The 11th Annual iD week was officially opened by Susie Staley the chair of the iD Dunedin fashion committee. Margo Barton the Academic leader of Otago Polytechnic’s School of Fashion Design and fellow committee member then welcomed the amazingly colourful and talented Guest judge, international fashion designer and textile artist Zandra Rhodes.

Zandra Rhodes & Andrew Logan

Zandra stuck out like a bright pink, vivacious and jewel adorned thumb. The guest designer thanked her sponsors and admitted that she wasn’t completely sure where “Done-A-Din” was when first approached but was looking forward to what the week entailed. Ms Rhodes wore a bright fuchsia pink and purple short sleeved dress, which true to her style was intricately detailed with a linear flower surface design.

Sophie Morris

Next up everyone was treated to an aria sung by up and coming classical singer Sophie Morris (wearing the most amazing Louboutin-esque studded stilettos) and the night swiftly moved on to the mixing and mingling the fashion world is so well known for. Among the crowd of minglers were designers, founders, sponsors and fashion followers alike.
