RAFW Runway Report: Camilla Spring/Summer 2010

It’s not everyday you get transported to Pandora (that is, the mystical world featured in Avatar for the 0.1% of you who haven’t seen the movie) but Camilla managed to do just that.

Everything from the feathers in the hair to the exotic prints to the shoes kept with the Avatar theme. The show even opened with two scarily realistic Na’vi dancing curiously down the runway.

Playing true to designer, Camilla Franks’ love of kaftans, there were many kaftan-esque maxi dresses on display. Being rather lacking in the height department, I tend to shy away from maxi dresses personally but these were beautiful and just how maxi dresses should be- very loose fitting and billowy with flirtatious necklines.

There was one in particular that stood out with splashes of orange, blue and yellow as bright as those found on a rainbow parrot, complete with a plunging v neck embellished with subtle hints of glitter.

A particular cut I liked was the one-shouldered dresses. Paired with loose, flowing material, it has the ability to make any dress look effortless. The watery pale blue one-shouldered dress had a particularly Avatar-inspired plant print, whilst the cut echoed that of a Grecian goddess dress.

That is not to say Avatar or maxi dresses were the only thing dominating this show though. The show featured very lady-like shades of pink, purple and peach whilst it also showed off jungle-prints, which combined with blunt fringes, and intense eye make-up shouted strength and confidence.

Thus, it could definitely be said that the show was one of contrasts, which is fitting since Camilla’s whole aesthetic is one of contrast- their pieces being just as likely to be found worn at a glamourous black-tie event or on a fabulous holiday at a resort in the Maldives.

I love those black bobs. One of my favourite looks of RAFW Day 1.
