RAFW Runway Report: Bianca Spender Spring/Summer 2010

Bianca Spender has fashion in her blood, being the daughter of Australian fashion icon, Carla Zampatti. She probably can’t go one article without there being some mention of this fact, as is what seems to happen when you have a famous parent but this debut collection of hers was designed to impress and it established herself as a designer in her own right.

The use of layering and draping of material over dresses was exquisite and provided a sophisticated texture. One thing I found interesting was that the models wore (gasp) flats- silver strapped sandals to be exact, although being so tall already, the wearing of flats made no difference to the models in the show and I think it allowed the focus to remain solely on the outfits.

The collection had a very whimsical vibe .The clothes were loose-fitting whilst still shaping the body and the subdued colour palette was a reminder that spring is no longer and autumn is here.

In all honesty one would never have guessed this was Bianca Spender’s first ever showing at Fashion Week and I’m sure it won’t be her last.
