RAFW Runway Report: Michael Lo Sordo Spring/Summer 2010

Michael Lo Sordo’s designs are elegant and timeless in the vein of Armani. It’s no surprise, considering Lo Sordo has worked as a visual merchandiser for the legendary Italian brand. The level of craftsmanship and care invested in the creation of these pieces was evident from the first look to the last.

Lo Sordo took ruching to another level. It wasn’t just a bit of ruching here and there on an outfit; it was everywhere- a key part of the outfit. The ruching and layering of chiffon beige sleeveless mini dress was to die for. So simple yet elegant.

One of the trends of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week seems to be subtle cut outs in outfits so it was no surprise to see this at Michael Lo Sordo. There was a white dress with mid-length sleeves featuring cutouts by the shoulders, which were a nice touch to what would otherwise be a potentially ordinary white dress.

Boyfriend jackets with scrunched up sleeves and one-shouldered dresses were other pieces right on trend that I was glad to see.

The jackets with panes of sheer material at the bottom and at the cuffs, which came in black and dark beige were a highlight of the show. There was a similar vest in white, along with the sheer panes at the bottom, the back of the vest was all sheer too. I loved the collaboration of these different materials to create one look.

The Michael Lo Sordo collection was chic without being “formal” and used sheer without being racy and ruching without being overwhelming. It was nice balances found like these that contributed to making it a great collection.
