Fashiontv Launch Online Designer Awards

When you think of influential figures or popular brands in fashion a few names probably run through your head, most likely one of the formidable fashion trio of Conde Nast come to mind: Vogue, Anna Wintour or; but when it comes to fashion on television there is one name to rule them all and that’s fashiontv.

The global fashion channel has just recently launched the FTV Online Designer Awards and the best part is, it’s only open to New Zealand and Australian residents. Aimed at launching emerging new talent, the award brings the power of online networks and the Perth Fashion Festival to create exposure for fashion designers.

Running from April through to July 4 2010, the fashiontv Online Designer Awards has 3 categories:

  1. Swim/Resort wear
  2. Evening/Couture
  3. Lifestyle Collections

The competition will be conducted entirely online, with each entrant submitting a minimum of 3 designs. Entrants upload 3 photos of their three selected entries on the All entries are uploaded daily to the website for viewer rating by the public.

Finalists and category winners will receive some awesome prizes, not to mention the recognition of industry leaders and the media. The social and public rating aspect of the awards means that the best entries may go viral – which means a groundswell of public awareness for the entrant designers. Each category will undergo two rounds of judging.

What are these prizes you ask?
There are so many that we have to summarise what is on offer.

Category winners will feature in a fully produced clip that will be filmed in Melbourne and televised internationally. They will also receive a truckload of other prizes that you can check out on the official website here.

The overall winner will take their place in a group Perth Fashion Week runway show, get a detailed write up and editorial in Australian Hair Journal, work experience with Vanessa Rochman from Metalicus, product package and exposure from Toni & Guy, product package from Bodyography, weekend at the Marriot Circular Quay, SONY CD’s, AM Eyewear and more, so much more.

Our take on the competition
Right now you are probably super excited at the prosepct of entering and just so you are aware there is an entry fee of $199, however don’t let that deter you. We have checked out the current entrants on the official website and, well…quite frankly I could think of about 100 or more designers (students, new grad’s, emerging and established) that could quite easily take this competition out. See for yourself what you are up against right here.

So what are you waiting for? Get your entry in and win prizes that money can’t buy!
