Nike Launches at The Department Store

Karen Walker cocktail dress, check. Fabulously styled hair, check. Topshop accessories, check. Nike running shoes…..uh, check?! The Department Store isn’t exactly the type of place where one would expect to find sportswear giants Nike. It is the type of place where one goes in wanting to look uber glam and uber stylish.  So when I found out Nike was setting up there I was rather, let’s say intrigued.

And Indeed, Nike did show they could hold their own in the boutique business. Nestled in the very back of the store, is a small but charming Nike section decked out with generous space and small stock count.

The event itself had appearances by many Fashion Giants such as Karen Walker and Mikhail Gherman as well as music/T.V personalities such as Shavaughn Ruakere and DJ Sirvere.

With DJ’s pumping urban beats, decked out in Nike gear as well as an eclectically styled Nike team running around, they successfully pushed the point that their clothing isn’t just sportswear. It is everyday wear, which can fit into nearly any personal style.

In fact, that was a major concept behind this range- to create something that was staying true to its sport background, but at the same time, wasn’t necessarily designed to be solely sportswear and could cosily squeeze into any wardrobe as basics (something designers should definitely always aspire too). As Nike would put it “inspired by sport, crafted for life”.

Stand out pieces of the event showcase where the classic Nike N98 Jacket. Check out the website to see their 98 ways to wear the N98 shot in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

And I just adored the faded vintage feel of the “Nike Dunk” sneakers. First created in 1985, these little babies still have that 80’s high top style with colours to suit this season.

This range is definitely worth a wee gander especially if you like a bit of casual tom boyishness to coincide with your glam chic. Like the logo claims, Nike indeed managed to “Just Do it”.
