NZFW Runway Report & Gallery: Juliette Hogan AW11

Ladylike is surely Juliette Hogan’s middle name. Her latest collection, The Morning After the Night Before, a sugary sweet amalgamation of polka dots, bows, high waists, creamy hues and leather, had the well-heeled lot frantically scribbling down their next high tea ensembles. While the collection was certainly not groundbreaking or incredibly innovative, it was pretty, elegant and very wearable, which is, in essence the Hogan mantra.

Hogan opened the show with a simple high waisted creamy coloured leather skirt paired with a dainty white sleeveless blouse. A slightly messy beehive topped it off and heightened the Mad Men look that seems to be all the rage this season.

And thus with the very first outfit, Hogan set the overriding tone for the rest of the show – proper. One of my personal favourites of the show was a delicious warm green coat with the most flattering A-line cut combined with an adorable checked skirt and a woollen top. It conjured up images of spectacular autumnal walks through leafy streets and ambling through musty libraries.

However, while the modest prim look undoubtedly threaded the show, Hogan let a saucier, slightly edgier side peep through this season. I very much fancied her body-hugging bias-sleeved nude coloured dress. The tight fit of the dress brought the sexy while the length and the quiet colour kept it classy.

The prominence of dark sombre greys and navy hues also injected a certain gravity to the collection. Fifties halter tops also featured heavily in the show and looked wondrous divine with sweet bow belts.

In a nutshell, Hogan delivered the ladies-who-lunch with new life for their wardrobes and by incorporating dark shades and sexy cuts, she lent the show a universal platform from which to display its beauty.
