NZFW Runway Report & Gallery: 27Names AW11

Designer duo, Anjali Stewart and Rachel Eastings latest exhibition – ‘The Fearsome Five’ – showcased an assembly of ‘cool kids’ showing-up smart ‘must have’ ensembles for next season. The ever-expanding brands cult following shouldn’t disappoint fans for next season as Twenty-Seven Names consistency in ethos follows through from strength to strength each year.

Bookish school girls run amok. Cute woollen sweaters in either dense or fine gauged knits come in monochromatic tones – which pair so fittingly with a preppy boyish jackets and full circle skirts. Dresses come printed or in neutral block colours, with frill-edged plackets that button-up to an eton or frilled collar (make sure to add a bow-tie, for that erudite-come-cool look).

Cape hybrid coat shapes in double tiered hems are a-gaped to create a structured volume. Whisper-y sheers are used to express subtle layering or on sleeves and shoulder inserts. A-frame dresses and cropped blazers heighten a scholarly vision. Polka dot evening attire; seem more mature but not stuffy and boring.

Having experienced watching the show, it summed up a feeling of hope that New Zealand designers can bring a lot to the fashion realm. No judges are out, for this was a collection that showed cohesion and consistency to a charming brand.
