NZFW Runway Report & Gallery: Blak Luxe AW11
While waiting for the Blak Luxe show to start I spy Derek Fabulous (a.k.a Derek Warburton, an American stylist based in New York) who is wearing Chanel sunglasses, and I can’t help taking my eyes off them – I want them! I can hear Canadian Blogger Casie Stewart somewhere, talking excitedly about the wonderful things she’s wearing-hearing-seeing. But I digress – as the show started it was evident that the collection themed Skin Deep is about contrast, romantic looks mixed with wilder inclinations.
Teresa Hodges brand – Blak Luxe – is a new brand with edgy and wearable offerings. A recent addition to Ciel PR (formerly known as Mint Condition PR), it was a collection brimmed with day and night edgy pieces that hones in on contrast looks.
Fur seems to be the least employed media this season but nonetheless jackets and the like are impressive and luxurious. An amazing cape in wool shearling swathes the wearer in warmth and style. Lacy tiers and delicate, filmy maxis are daring but feminine and oversized, adding boudoir looks that can be worn for day and ravishing for night.
Knitwear comes in monotones highlighted with leopard skin prints. Velvets are available in a print that looks very similar to a bouquet of hemlock and gardenias. Blush blouses feature very cute pearl buttons.
The finale – floor length maxi dresses are rife with lace; floaty satin dresses have windows of lace that go right around the back and are proportioned beautifully. Blak Luxe is definitely one to watch.
