NZFW Runway Report & Gallery: Salasai AW11

This year Kirsha Whitcher of Salasai decided to show off-site and it was a most prudent decision, in a sense that it made for an exciting show that oozed ‘exclusivity’, and what better way to have a show (to carry that exclusiveness) by holding it at the 5 star Hilton Hotel.

This was the one to watch.  ‘Sacrificial Grace’ – an idea that Whitcher employed to create a collection that conveyed puritan concepts and sober offerings.  In contrast to last year’s winter collection, which was printed to the hilt with 80’s references enriched with colour and woollen textures – this winter, expect delicate nuances that call for a minimalistic approach revealed in a most wholesome way.

White-wash beginnings start the show in loose cottons and cool off-the-shoulder drapery with toga looks.  Black accents border patch pockets and waist to interrupt sleepy beiges and chalky ivories.  Intricate cable knotting on the yolk, act as an intricate feature, breaking an otherwise simple top.

Men’s attire evolved into a cross-over of women’s pieces, with the ubiquitous skort, looked appropriate to finish a shirt and pant ensemble.  A dizzying array of geometric prints materialized into graphic chaos in black and white, infortune those who may suffer from vertigo – appear on dresses and comfy knitwear.

Bustiers and corset-like shapes add sexy overtones but with the general effortless, ease of the collection, sensuality was evident everywhere.
