A Slice of Summer at iD Dunedin Launch
The Dunedin iD Fashion Commitee is the gift that keeps on giving. Fashion followers were treated to a night of cocktails and canapés at Dunedin’s stunning Pier 24 at St Clair Beach. Around 100 guests gathered to hear the new dates for Dunedin’s iD Fashion Week which is now being held between the 5-10th of April so that international guests and fashion industry members can attend.
The launch night itself was a bit of a taste tester for Dunedin’s new spring/summer 2011 ranges and local retailers and designers such as Carlson, Charmaine Reveley, DADA, White by Design, Waughs and Bellebird exhibitited this seasons latest looks.
If this snippet of fashion is anything to go on ties as bows and bows in general are going to be taking over this Summer in all shapes and sizes. Now I know what you’re thinking ‘eek giant bows’ but the bows this season are a more relaxed version. Think soft scarves tied in a bow around the neck and if you can’t imagine it just check out how these retailers styled up their outfits.
Carlson went for a little black magic with their bow which worked its charms tied loosely around the neck and teamed with a cute blue Salasai dress.
But they didn’t stop at the neck another Carlson label Juliette Hogan also featured some bow action with a grey blouse gathered at the hem into a more structured bow styled with a white skirt and slightly cropped blazer which made for a very compartmental yet cohesive ensemble.
Charmaine Reveley also spiced up her trademark silk print dress with some scarf bow styling.
This season grey and blue tones have transcended in to the summer styles and look to be prominent among our retail stores.
Again Charmain Reveley was a front runner with her new season “Rush” inspired by the Central Otago gold mining history. My favourite from her collection was the crisp blue silk dress. Although the silhouette is simple the vibrant and block use of colour and the light nature of the silk makes this the perfect summer dress to take you from dusk till dawn.
For the more youthful spirits and naturally blessed Bellebird showcased a cute wee Karen Walker number in a fashionably blue plaid. Not only was the dress super cute but the talented girls at Bellebird teamed this flirty number with the most adorable blue and cream Melissa pumps with sweet but not sickly heart embellishments.
Waughs took the show to town with there charcoal grey sequinned number that was met by the crowd with gasps of delight. Always one to stay up with the times this slinky number is all the more fashion worthy with architecturally folded and cropped sleeves.
Fashion retailer White by Design also stepped up in the structural stakes with a gorgeous grey patterned dress with fitted bodice and folded and draped skirt. The dress looked well proportioned with its contrasting elements of voluminous structure and close fit. I would hate to be the pattern maker behind the scenes because it looks like a lot of work would’ve had to be put into this one.
The iD Dunedin fashion week Dates launch was a sweet treat for those who attended. Not only were we served a tantalising taste tester of Summer but also the new Charmaine Reveley cocktail sponsored by Absolut Vodka. I don’t know about you but as much as I love winter I’m looking forward to the fresh and vibrant fashions of Summer 2011. So if you are track these amazing designs down and treat yourself to a slice of Summer 2011.
